WC Hunger Banquet 2014

Life isn't fair—and neither is this. At an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet, the place where you sit, and the meal that you eat, are determined by the luck of the draw—just as in real life some of us are born into relative prosperity and others into poverty. During the banquet, guests will share a meal based on the food disparities present in our world today. Participants will be asked to participate in assigned roles (no acting needed!) and discuss their thoughts after the meal. Food insecurity - both nationally and internationally - will be considered and how our decisions affect others in the world. After the banquet, participants will have a greater understanding of hunger and poverty - and will hopefully be motivated to help change the poverty cycle.

The Oxfam Hunger Banquet is sponsored by Wilson College Residence Life, Chaplain's Office, Student Development and Diversity Team. Representatives of the South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP) a nonprofit cooperative will facilitate the event. SCCAP's mission is to empower families and engage the community to pursue innovative and effective solutions to break the cycle of poverty.

The Banquet is free to participants. Students with meal plans will use one of their meals for the event. Individuals without meal plans will be covered by our sponsors. For students attending night class, we will have to-go boxes available. All participants will recieve a full meal at the conclusion of the event.
